How to Clean a Bong with Baking Soda

If you enjoy smoking herb or tobacco from a bong, you know how important it is to keep your bong clean and fresh. A dirty bong can ruin the taste of your smoke, harbor bacteria and mold, and look unsightly. Fortunately, there is a simple and natural way to clean your bong using baking soda and some hot water. Baking soda is a gentle abrasive that can help remove the sticky resin and tar that build up in your bong over time. It is also eco-friendly and inexpensive, making it a great alternative to harsh chemicals or expensive cleaners. Here are the steps to follow to clean your bong with baking soda:

Step 1: Gather the supplies

To clean your bong with baking soda, you will need the following supplies:

  • A sink or basin
  • Baking soda
  • Hot water
  • A long cleaning brush or pipe cleaner
  • Latex gloves (optional)
  • A plastic bag (optional)

Step 2: Disassemble and rinse your bong

Before you start cleaning your bong, you should disassemble it and remove any movable parts, such as the bowl and the downstem. Check for any damage, such as cracks or chips, and replace any broken pieces before using your bong again. Rinse your bong and its parts with warm water to remove any loose particles and debris. You can also fill your bong with some warm water and shake it gently to loosen some of the buildup.

Step 3: Add baking soda and hot water to your bong

Next, you need to add some baking soda and hot water to your bong to create a paste that will scrub the inside of your bong. You can use a spoon or a funnel to add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda through the mouthpiece of your bong. Then, carefully pour some hot water into the chamber of your bong until it is about half full. Be careful not to use boiling water or cold glass, as this can cause your bong to crack. You can also add some baking soda and hot water to a plastic bag and place your bowl and downstem inside it.

Step 4: Shake and soak your bong

Now, you need to shake your bong and its parts to coat them with the baking soda paste. You can use your hands, fingers, or thumbs to plug the holes of your bong and prevent spills. Shake your bong for about five minutes or until you see the water turn brownish. You can also massage the plastic bag with your bowl and downstem inside it. Then, let your bong and its parts soak in the mixture for an hour or two, or overnight if they are very dirty.

Step 5: Rinse and scrub your bong

Finally, you need to rinse and scrub your bong and its parts with clean water. Pour out the dirty water from your bong and the plastic bag into the sink. Rinse them well with warm water until no traces of baking soda remain. You can also use a long cleaning brush or pipe cleaner to reach any hard-to-clean areas and remove any stubborn residue. Dry your bong and its parts with a soft cloth or paper towel.

Step 6: Enjoy your clean bong

Congratulations! You have successfully cleaned your bong with baking soda. Now you can enjoy smoking herb or tobacco from a fresh and sparkling bong. To keep your bong clean longer, you should change the water after each session and clean it regularly with baking soda every one or two weeks.
