How to Make a Homemade Glass Bong with Simple Materials

If you are looking for a fun and creative way to enjoy your favorite herb or tobacco, you might want to try making your own glass bong. A glass bong is a device that filters and cools the smoke through water, making it smoother and more flavorful. Glass bongs are also more durable and easier to clean than plastic or metal ones. Plus, you can customize your glass bong with different shapes, colors, and designs.

In this blog post, we will show you how to make a homemade glass bong with simple materials that you can find at home or at a local store. You will need:

  • A glass bottle of your choice. You can use any kind of glass bottle, but we recommend choosing one with a wide base and a long neck for better stability and airflow. You can also look for a bottle with an interesting shape or color to make your bong more unique.
  • A 3/4″ diamond drill bit. This is a special drill bit that can cut through glass without cracking or breaking it. You can buy one online or at a hardware store for about $10-$15.
  • A battery-powered drill. You will need this to drill a hole in the bottle for the stem. Make sure it is battery-powered, as you will be using water to cool the glass while drilling.
  • A rubber grommet. This is a small rubber ring that will seal the hole in the bottle and hold the stem in place. You can find one at a hardware store or online. The grommet should have an outside diameter of 31/32″, an inner diameter of 1/2″, and a 3/4″ groove.
  • A glass stem and bowl. These are the parts that you will use to pack and light your herb or tobacco. You can buy them online or at a head shop. The stem should be about 14mm in diameter and long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle. The bowl should fit snugly on top of the stem.
  • A propane torch. You will need this to heat and bend the glass stem to fit the shape of the bottle. You can buy one online or at a hardware store for about $20-$30.
  • Some water. You will need this to fill the bottle and create the filtration system.

Once you have all the materials ready, you can follow these steps to make your homemade glass bong:

  1. Clean the bottle. Rinse the bottle with warm water and soap to remove any dirt or residue. Dry it well with a towel or paper towel.
  2. Mark the spot for the hole. Use a sharpie or a pen to mark where you want to drill the hole for the stem. It should be somewhere on the upper curve of the bottle, where the surface is relatively flat and not too thick.
  3. Drill the hole. Attach the diamond drill bit to your drill and set it to 3/4 of its maximum speed. Place a piece of duct tape over the marked spot to prevent slipping. Hold the bottle under running water in the sink to keep it cool while drilling. Gently press the drill bit against the spot and start drilling slowly and steadily. Do not apply too much pressure or force, as this can crack or shatter the glass. Keep drilling until you have a clean hole that is slightly larger than 1/2″ in diameter.
  4. Insert the grommet. Push the rubber grommet into the hole from the inside of the bottle until it fits snugly. The groove of the grommet should be facing outwards.
  5. Heat and bend the stem. Turn on your propane torch and adjust it to a low flame. Hold the glass stem over the flame and rotate it slowly until it becomes soft and pliable. Be careful not to overheat or burn the glass, as this can weaken it or cause it to break. Once the stem is soft enough, bend it gently to match the angle of the bottle neck. Let it cool down completely before handling it.
  6. Insert the stem into the grommet. Push the bent end of the stem into the grommet from outside of
    the bottle until it reaches
    the bottom of
    the base.
    The stem should fit tightly
    and securely
    in
    the grommet.
    If
    it is too loose
    or too tight,
    you can adjust
    it by heating
    and bending
    it again
    or by using
    a different size
    of grommet.
  7. Attach the bowl to the stem. Screw or snap the bowl onto the top of the stem. Make sure it is firmly attached and aligned with the stem.
  8. Fill the bottle with water. Pour some water into the bottle through the neck until it covers about 1/3 of the stem. You can adjust the water level to your preference, but make sure it is not too high or too low. Too much water will make it harder to draw the smoke and may splash into your mouth. Too little water will reduce the filtration and cooling effect of the bong.

Congratulations, you have just made your own homemade glass bong! Now you can enjoy your herb or tobacco with a smooth and satisfying hit. To use your bong, simply pack some herb or tobacco into the bowl, light it with a lighter, and inhale through the mouthpiece of the bottle. Remember to change the water regularly and clean your bong after each use to keep it fresh and hygienic.
